Third-person Pov
Next day
In the languid aftermath of an academic respite, the corridors of the educational institution hummed with the idle pursuits of liberated students. It was during such a fortuitous free period that Asher and Blake found themselves captivated by the rhythmic back-and-forth of a table tennis match, their paddles cutting through the air with practiced ease. TTheir competitive spirit only subsided as the class period waned, leading them to head to the washroom to wash away the evidence of their exertion.
Post-refreshment, Asher reached for his phone, his fingers deftly composing a message to Serena, inquiring about her whereabouts. The absence of an immediate response etched a scowl across his features, a detail not missed by the observant Blake. The lighthearted banter that followed did little to dispel Asher's brewing impatience, which only dissipated upon his tacit acknowledgment of Serena's likely refugeโthe library.
Their journey to the library was not without its social snares; the duo's entrance drew the admiring stares of their female peers, a testament to their social standing. Asher, steadfast in his mission, paid no heed to the silent accolades, while Blake offered a playful acknowledgment to the librarian, his wink a token of his irrepressible charm.
Upon arriving at Serena's usual spot, they encountered a scene that was different from the usual, causing confusion and exchanged looks of surprise. The contrast between what was expected and what was actually happening was noticeable, and when Asher turned to his companion for advice, the sight that met his eyes sparked a deep transformation. His composure, once as unyielding as the table tennis table, now gave way to a fury as potent as a tempest. With a stride that mirrored the force of a hulk, he advanced towards the unexpected occupants, his voice a thunderous echo of indignation that reverberated through the quiet library. "What the fuck!! You both are doing in the here?"
Serena's Pov
"Hi Serena," the voice caught me off guard, and as I spun around, there was David, looking like he was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.ย
"Hi... David, is everything alright?" I asked, my voice tinged with concern.ย
"Yeah... it's just, is Asher around here?" he inquired, his eyes darting around nervously.
ย "No, why?" I responded, genuinely puzzled.ย
He let out a sigh that seemed to carry a bit of relief, and a smile cracked across his face.ย
"You see, yesterday I saw the love letter was torn apart by Asher, so I just-" he began, but I cut him off, curiosity piqued, "Wait, how do you know it's a love letter?"
Suddenly, his cheeks were ablaze with a rosy hue, and he stammered, "I-it was m-me who w-wrote i-it to y-you."
ย My own cheeks felt like they were on fire at his confession. "Ooh," was all I could manage to utter, my brain scrambling to process this unexpected revelation.
I stood there, completely out of my depth, never having been in this kind of situation before, and I hadn't the faintest clue what to say next. But before the awkward silence could stretch on, a mysterious voice cut through the air, "So, it's you that was writing letters to her?"
ย Out of nowhere, this guy stepped in, planting himself between David and me. He had this raven-colored hair that seemed to absorb the light around him, honey brown eyes that held a certain warmth despite the coldness in his tone. He was tall, with a build that spoke of strength, though he lacked Asher's almost Herculean physique. For a fleeting moment, I was lost in the image of Asher's bare chest, a memory that seemed both inappropriate and comforting at the same time.
"Tell me, it was you right, you bastard? Who kept letters in her locker, huh?" the newcomer demanded, his gaze fixed on David with an intensity that could start fires. Snapped back to reality, I blurted out, "Wait, who are you? And what are you babbling about? Letters? What letters??"
"My name is Nick and me- shit I don't know how to say it" he let out a frustrated sigh, his eyes locking onto mine. There was a brief pause as he seemed to wrestle with his words, then he took a deep breath, ran his hand through his hair, and tried again.ย
"You see, Serena, this David guy has been writing letters to you for weeks, but I... I didn't let them get to you."
David, unable to contain himself, interrupted, "So it was YOU, not Asher. I thought it was him when I spied him tearing up my letters."ย
Nick's response was a growl, "Yes, you bastard, it was me." My mind was reeling, but somehow, I managed to ask Nick, "Why?"
ย Hearing my question, his demeanor softened, and he looked at me with a kind of gentle intensity. He reached for my hand, placing it over his heart, where I could feel the rapid thumping against my palm. His voice was soft and earnest as he confessed, "Because I love you."
My eyes must've been as wide as saucers. "When I started noticing you, I thought you were just another girl trying to get Asher's attention, but then I saw how you really were with him, just a friend, and... damn, I don't know when or how, but I fell for you. Hard." His voice trailed off to a whisper, and I found myself blushing harder, biting my lip, still feeling the thrum of his heartbeat under my hand. But before I could even begin to respond, a raw, rough voice filled the library, "What the fuck? What are you both doing here?"
I jerked my hand back as if I'd been burned, and turned to see Asher barreling toward us like a bull on a mission. Panic set in as he grabbed Nick by the collar, "Why the fuck are you touching her? And who the hell are you?"
Blake, who seemed to have appeared out of thin air, tried to intervene, "Whoa, man wait-Asher? What the hell are you doing?" But my voice came out small and scared, "Asher, what are you doing?" I had never seen him this angry, and it was terrifying.
"What am I doing? Huh?" Asher shot back at me, anger radiating off him in waves. I stumbled backward, tripping slightly, only to feel Nick's hands steadying me. I looked up at him, his expression one of concern, then back at Asher, whose jaw was clenched so tight I thought it might snap. "You know what Serena Williams, Fuck off!" And with that, he stormed off as if the earth would part to let him through. I collapsed to the ground, tears streaming down my face, utterly.
'What did I do?'
